CES 2024: My Annual Excitement

It’s only a few days away, but my excitement has never been higher. Ok, I might be lying a bit, but regardless, my inner girl is screaming with joy and happiness just knowing that new gadgets are nearly on the horizon.

Those of you who might not be in the know about what CES stands for, it’s the Consumer Electronics Show (CES), which is the world's largest annual trade show for consumer electronics, held in Las Vegas. Essentially, it’s a big convention centre hall where all the latest and greatest consumer technology is unveiled, showcasing the latest innovations and trends that will shape the future of our lives. Ok, maybe I went a bit overboard with that statement, but it definitely outlines the future of tech.

To give you a recap, CES 2023 was a resounding success, with over 110,000 attendees from 160 countries, unfortunately I was not one of them in person, but I was in spirit. The show featured over 3,200 exhibitors displaying and announcing products ranging from smartphones and laptops to smart home devices and self-driving cars. Some of the most notable announcements from CES 2023 included:

  • DisplaceTV: Displace revealed and showed off it’s fully wireless TV that you can stick to any wall and will fall down slowly in case anything happens.

  • LG's Signature OLED M3 TV: The wireless TV tech was a trend this year with LG showcasing their efforts. In this case the TV has a power cord, but communicates to a wireless controller box where all the cables are plugged in.

  • Amazon Ring Car Cam: Amazon announced their latest efforts in car security with a dashboard camera that not only offers dual cameras, but also 24/7 surveillance with a built in LTE connectivity.

  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX 40 Series Laptop cards: NVIDIA introduced new laptop graphics cards, following closely to their desktop graphics card launch, further pushing the boundaries what games can be run on laptops.

  • Evie Ring: Evie announced it’s work on a health tracking ring specific to the female health, based on the menstrual cycle, as it found no other device took it into consideration when reporting on female health.

There were many more announcements, but these really stood out for moving the bar further.

CES 2024: What to Expect

Now onto the good part - CES 2024 is scheduled to take place from January 9-12 and I can’t wait. I will, just as other years, be closely following all developments online, but I do hope to travel to a CES in person one year. The show is expected to be even bigger and better than last year, with over 120,000 attendees and 3,500 exhibitors expected. Some of the things we can expect to see at CES 2024 include:

  • More foldable and rollable devices: Foldable and rollable devices were a big trend in previous CESs, and we can expect to see even more of them at CES 2024.

  • More AI-powered devices: AI is already being used in a wide range of devices, from smartphones to smart home devices, and we can expect to see even more AI-powered devices at CES 2024.

  • Innovations in areas like robotics, machine intelligence, and generative AI are expected.

  • AMD is rumoured to be announcing the Ryzen 8000G APUs, and Nvidia is rumoured to be launching the RTX 4070 Super and RTX 4080 Super GPUs.

  • Intel and AMD are both expected to launch hardware that's purpose-built for local AI workloads.

  • More sustainable technologies: Sustainability is a growing concern for consumers, and we can expect to see more sustainable technologies at CES 2024. These technologies can help us reduce our environmental impact and live more sustainably.

  • More immersive entertainment experiences: CES is always a great place to see the latest in entertainment technology, and we can expect to see even more immersive entertainment experiences at CES 2024. These experiences can transport us to other worlds and allow us to experience things that we never thought possible.

CES 2024 is shaping up to be an exciting event, and I can't wait to see what the future of technology holds.
