Nuphy Air60 review
Hey, tech enthusiasts! Recently, I embarked on a new adventure into the world of mechanical keyboards with the Nuphy Air60. Let me walk you through my experience.
Compact Wonder
The Nuphy Air60 struck me with its compact design. It's a space-saver on my desk, leaving plenty of room for mouse maneuvers - a stark contrast to the expansive territory occupied by full-size keyboards like the Logitech MX Keys. This little gadget has made my daily computer interactions both smooth and spacious.
The Sound of Typing
Diving into the mechanical keyboard realm, the Nuphy Air60, with its Gateron brown switches, was a leap from my quieter membrane keyboards. It's a different typing experience, with each keypress resonating a distinct, mechanical feel and sound. This keyboard offers a satisfying sound signature, which is unexpectedly delightful to the ears, but ever since I have been exploring more and more switches, it’s just a baseline that has long been overtaken by a multitude of others, yet remaining a great starting point for anyone who wants to try a mechanical keyboard for themselves.
Customization Galore
One thing I appreciate is the customization options. The Air60 features hot-swappable switches, allowing for personal tweaks. Fancy changing the keycaps or switches? Go ahead! This flexibility adds a personal touch to the typing experience. The key profile and feel of the non-shine-though keycaps was extremely pleasant and I have not yet found a nicer feeling keycap from another brand, so I keep coming back to Nuphy’s own PBT keycaps.
Portability Plus
The keyboard's portability is a big win. It fits snugly into my bag, making it an excellent travel companion for coffee shop work sessions or on-the-go productivity. It also takes up very little space on my desk, which makes mousing around an extraordinarily better experience.
A Little Quirk
However, it's not all smooth typing. My main quibble lies with the right Shift key. Its size is similar to the letter keys, leading to frequent accidental presses of the arrow up key, which means - selections and overwrites that often meet frustration and Commad+Z-ing. It's a design choice that requires some getting used to, especially for someone new to such tiny mechanical keyboards.
The Verdict
So, should you consider the Nuphy Air60? If you're looking for a compact, customizable, and portable mechanical keyboard, it's definitely worth a look. For mechanical keyboard newbies like me, it's an interesting starting point, despite its learning curve and unique layout.
Overall, the Nuphy Air60 is a nifty little device that adds efficiency and style to my workspace. It's a gadget that invites curiosity and opens up new avenues in personal computing – with just a few quirks to keep in mind.
